Dispatcher: What’s the problem? Westerfield: Oh, everything’s on fire. Dispatcher: What do you mean everything, sir? Westerfield: Our plant. Dispatcher: OK, give me your phone number, please. Westerfield: 585-8741. We just had a big explosion, and everything’s on fire. Dispatcher: OK, what’s the name of the business? Westerfield: Pacific Engineering. We’re Gibson Road and the Los Angeles-Henderson cutoff. Dispatcher: OK, I’ve got that, sir. We’ll send somebody right over. Westerfield: Get ‘em all out here.
After the disaster, PEPCON was renamed Western Electrochemical Co. and relocated about 14 miles northwest of Cedar City, Utah. It is now called Amerian Pacific.
